Five taken to hospital after 11-vehicle crash on M73
GoogleFive people, including two children, have been taken to hospital after an 11-vehicle crash on the M73 in North Lanarkshire.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) sent four fire appliances and a heavy rescue unit to the scene near Gartcosh just before midnight.
Two patients were taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow and two to the adjoining Royal Hospital for Children. A fifth patient was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary.
Three people were also treated at the scene.
The road was closed northbound between Junction 2 Baillieston and Junction 2a Gartcosh and reopened just before 04:00 on Monday.
The Scottish Ambulance Service said six ambulances and two special operations attended.
A SFRS spokesperson said they received a report of a crash involving around 15 vehicles northbound on the M73 at 23:58 on Sunday.
They said: "Operations Control mobilised four fire appliances and specialist resources to the scene which was a collision involving 11 vehicles.
"A number of casualties were in the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service who transported them to hospital.
"Crews left the scene after ensuring the area was made safe."
